B&W Photography - Beginning/Intermediate (Fall only)

Learn how to create beautiful black and white photographs. Students will receive a general foundation in b&w photography, darkroom techniques, and the operation of the 35mm SLR camera through a series of creative weekly assignments. Classroom time will include photographic critiques in the quest to steer students away from taking snapshots and focus on creating works of art.

No prior photographic experience is necessary, and the class will accomodate both beginning and intermediate photography students. Bring a 35mm SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera with manual override and instruction booklet to the first session. All class materials are included in the tuition. Participants will be responsible for their own film processing costs.

Cyanotype Workshop (offered in Spring)

This is a hands-on workshop for anyone interested in creating photographic images who doesn't necessarily have access to a fully functional darkroom. The cyanotype process yields blue brilliantly striking images that are just as simple as they are fun to create. Emphasis will be placed on making cyanotypes that are both unique and personal to the artist, and how to adapt this process to a typical classroom.

Bring to the workshop any uniquely interesting and relatively thin objects that will allow some light to pass through them (ie. newspaper clippings, transparencies, negatives, lace, translucent swatches of cloth, 2D pen/pencil drawings, feathers, leaves, etc...) which will be used in the cyanotype-making process.

There is a materials fee of $10 for this workshop for paper, brushes, and chemicals. Enrollment is limited to 15.
